These are not my first Goodyear welted boots. I have a variety of others, including Fryes, UK Docs, and Lucchesses, and I’m no stranger to Red Wings. So…I’m versed in boots. I actually love my Thursdays. I’m a true size 7, dead-on average B width, with slender heels/ankles. In most Goodyear welted boots, I’m a 7.5. In Thursday's captains, I needed an 8. I could have stretched the 7.5s, but it would have affected the integrity of the boot. I was taught to buy a boot that your foot doesn’t deform, as stitching is always going to be a weak point, and stretching the boot too far is what leads to popped stitches. Also, I buy so that the bend in my toes hits the natural bend in the boot. For me, that puts me in an 8. They are not sloppy/floppy/loose, and after wearing them a couple days, I only get maybe 1/4 inch of heel slip (1/4-1/2 inch is considered appropriate after break-in). I wouldn’t say my Thursdays are totally broken in yet, but they’re already more comfortable, and should be broken in within a couple more wears. I tried two different leathers (a chromexcel and a Thursday chrome) before settling on the tobacco rugged and resilient leather. It’s creasing, as leather tanned in this manner does, but not in a way that indicates there’s a defect. The soles are still a bit stiff, but they have a metal shank, so this will take a bit to bend to my feet. I’ve seen lots of reviewers comparing these to 300-500 boots and…these are not those boots. However, they are far better than they should be for 190. I wouldn’t wear them for field work, and these are not hiking boots, but they’re fine for backcountry strolls. I think they’d be great travel boots, too. For those wary of the non-US manufacturing: these are from a factory in Mexico, which as a country actually has a longer boot manufacturing history than the US does, at least for bench crafted boots. I am very pleased with the manufacturing on these. There are places I absolutely don’t want my boots imported from, but Mexico isn’t one of them. Love these boots and I love that I could try a couple sizes (carefully!) in my home before deciding which fit best.I usually wear a size 9.5-10, so I ordered the 10 and they fit beautifully.I have long narrow feet, and these work well for me. I don’t think they would be as comfortable on someone with wider feet, particularly a wider forefoot as the toe box is very narrow as well. Or if your toes spread a lot while walking these boots might be a bit constricting. For me, these are exactly what I was wanting and I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase.I stand at work for my entire shift and these were so comfortable to work in all day.I am extremely rough on boots. I work outside on my feet for long periods of time. After 1 week of breaking them in I'm in love the quality of the leather and how water resistant these are. I've worn these in wet environments and was happy to feel my feet still dry. They look super sharp. There is a break in period with them like any boot. I decided to take a chance on these after seeing them advertised online and I am very satisfied with how they are turning out. I walk about 8 miles a day. Thursday boot co thank you for making a great pair of boots!I bought these boots looking for genuine American made quality. Out of the box they were gorgeous, my only problem is that there’s no lining around the shaft, which makes chafing a problem without thick socks during the break-in period. To break them in I soaked them in mink oil and gradually wore them to break them in over two weeks.Since breaking in, they’ve been perfect as general wear boots while still protecting my feet! Good walking support and the fit gets better with time. I’d still prefer if they had some lining and a loop on the back to pull on, but they’ve garnered a lot of attention from others for their cute, functional style! The boots are just what I wanted. They fit and feel comfortable. Just wished you sold women dress shoes!!Happy feet here in the mountains. These boots fit perfectly and then I walked over rough territory for a bit and they became more comfortable as I wore them.Tbh, beautiful boot. Love the look even more than expected. I wear sizes US 8-9, most commonly 8.5. I ordered a size 9 as it is recommend to size 1/2 size up from your sneaker size.Girlfriend, when I tell you that these were tight: they were so tight. It felt tight on the top of my foot oddly and the dominant foot did feel squeezed into the toe box. The heels felt l was pushing them up against a concrete wall. I do think it’s pretty inconvenient that these do not run in typical sizing and it would be better suited for Thursday to offer an actual size measurement guide or fit template. This is pretty unfortunate to return and pocket another order in the meantime. Plus, they don’t arrive prime-quick because they have to be shipped to Amazon first I guess? Whatever the case, this would just be a huge improvement for first time buyers.Sitting with them on for about 30 minutes: my toes were numb. Super unfortunate, but returning to try an additional half size up. Will report back to let you know if this worked for me!Five stars because they are pretty and smell like Jackson’s Western Store (lol) but also because I don’t want to be karmically punished for leaving a low star review. Just read my words people and heed the warning.EDIT: sizing up worked! If these are tight at all around your toes, they shouldn’t be. You probably have the wrong size. My mom usually wears size 8 but sometimes 8.5. She tried the 9’s on and took them :D my 9.5 were not tight at all and didn’t even require much break in.The boots are super cute, and I’d heeded other reviews suggesting to size up. My normal is a 10, purchased the 11 and these are still very tight(even after using a tool that expands shoes). It’s blister-city if you don’t go up at least 1.5 sizes.I really liked the style of this boot-- a clean looking narrow boot. Although a fairly affordable price for a leather boot, unfortunately there were just too many issues that I had to return it. Firstly there were too many loose threads-- even on one of the boot laces. This is not a major issue but there were just too many tiny threads sticking out. The lacing hooks were also misaligned and one side of hooks were slightly higher. The heels of the boots also looked slightly uneven and there was a small crack on the top of heel on right boot which was concerning. The insole in one of the boots was fitted/cut incorrectly that a white area underneath could be seen. Some of the stitching on the boot also looked uneven and not neat. Overall I just felt the craftsmanship in making boot could have been better for the price. The fit of the boot is narrow so definitely need to go up at least half size maybe full size if you want to wear thick socks. I went up half size as suggested and fit was slightly tight but was still ok. I was contemplating if I should try another boot style and buy directly from the company website instead of from Amazon but I think I'm going to pass and maybe look for another boot with better craftsmanship that may be more expensive. I did return the boots and had no issues with shipping or processing of the refund. These are so great. They’ve become my every day work shoe. I was concerned about them as first because I have Plantar fasciitis and my orthotics don’t fit in them. However, these give me so much support that I don’t need the orthotics! My feet don’t hurt after a long day. And they look great with everything!Love love love my new Thursday captain boots. Can’t wait for the cooler weather to wear them. Pictures don’t do them justice. I ordered my regular size which is 8 and they’re definitely snug but not so snug that I feel I would need a bigger size. With thin socks they’re quite comfortable right out of the box but i’m sure after a few wears they’ll stretch and conform to my feet...my Frye Harness boots were the same and now they’re super comfortable
